
Dr. Aisha Haynes

Dr. Aisha Haynes joined the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) as the Principal Director for Advanced Materials in February 2024. In this role, Haynes serves as the Department of Defense's senior official for Advanced Materials, providing leadership, strategy, and advocacy for Advanced Materials Science and Technology (S&T) priorities and programs across DoD's enterprise.
Prior to joining OUSD(R&E), Haynes served as the Senior Scientific Technical Manager (SSTM) for Materials, Producibility, Engineering Analysis, and Prototyping at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities and Development Command at Armaments Center, Picatinny Arsenal. As SSTM, she also served as the director of the Analysis, Materials, and Prototyping Directorate, leading Armaments Center's competencies and initiatives in materials science and engineering, computational structural and fluid dynamics, and manufacturing and producibility of armaments technologies. Haynes has more than 20 years of experience in advanced materials research and development for armaments technologies with the U.S. Army. She has also served as an adjunct professor for materials science and engineering at the State University of New York at Stony Brook as well as professor for materials science at the U.S. Army's Armaments Graduate School at Picatinny Arsenal.
Haynes received her doctorate in materials science and engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and a Bachelor of Science in engineering physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She is a recipient of the United States Field Artillery Association's Honorable Order of Saint Barbara, National Defense Industrial Association's Firepower Technology Award, and BEYA Modern-Day Technology Leader Award.
